J GRIFFITH OCTAGON BARREL 1840S LONG GUN, USED IN CIVIL WAR

a fair condition J Griffith manufacturer fron 1840-1865. Not cut down and and trigger works but needs adjustments. Great petina and side plate. These guns were one of the most commonlly used during by local hunters commissioned during the seige of Cincinnati in 1862 to defend the city. Known as the Squirrel Hunters. The confederates knew they only needed one bullet to fight and defend according to the 1862 Cincinnati Gazette. Purchased 2 years ago locally from Wes Cowans historical auctions. a nice gun at a below market price..
