Johns life started as early as 1850 when he ran for office of state senate. He was elected in ohio 1852,1853,1854 Hamilton country. In 1853 he became the postmaster and was removed by president Buchanan James Faren was appointed in 1855. In 1859, again Dr Vattier was appointed and served till the war in april 1861. He and Dr Bleckman served the City of Cincinnati as chief surgeons in the city starting at the beginning of the war. In 1859 the governor of Ohio appointed Dr Vattier as president of the Longview Asylum >Records are supplied with this historical German silver presentation 4 inch plate.When the Battle of Shiloh started, Dr Vattier paid out of his own pocket to commission 3 steam ships dispatched with 25 nurses and 10 doctors to bring wounded soldiers back to Ohio. The Cincinnati Gazetter has many articles talking about appointed (CAPTAIN) Dr John L Vattier marching down the street of Cincinnati with 200 volunteers and marching across the wood bridge to Covington. Reported shooting their guns with joy. This rare Presnetation plate is appreciation from the City of Cincinnati for being a QUEEN CITY DEFENDER. I human medical study period skull is also included in this grouping including a copy of a ballot for the Democratic Ticket with GEORGE B MCCLELLAN after the war.
